Kook This article contains material from Rabbi Kook's diaries, material that has never before appeared in English and clearly is very important for understanding the thought of Rabbi Kook. Through this material, the first Chief Rabbi of Israel and one of the most important Jewish philosophers and scholars of Jewish law (Halakhah) is revealed as a radical antinomian and mystic figure. biographical information Dr. Avinoam Rosenak is lecturer in the Hebrew University in the department of Jewish thought since 1995. He obtained his Ph.D in Jewish philosophy from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His book on the Philosophy of Halakhah (Jewish Law) of Rabbi Kook will be published by Magnes Press (Jerusalem) and is entitled: The Prophetic Halakhah (forthcoming 2005). (This article deals with a different facet of Rabbi Kook's thought than that dealt with in the doctoral dissertation). Dr. Rosenak's post doc. was at Harvard University, in the framework of the Center for Jewish Studies.
