Protection of Electronic Health Records from Natural and Human Disasters

Abstract: It is the natural right of every human being to live a healthy life. Human beings have struggled to
cure and/or protect themselves from all diseases they have encountered throughout history in order to be healthy
and alive. The desire to be healthy has enabled various medical research to be carried out every semester and
has been the trigger for different medical discoveries. In order to benefit from all clinical findings to follow up
diseases to find new treatment methods and to maintain health status, health records and patient files must be
preserved and archived under certain standards. Medical documentation is seen as an important tool in
obtaining medical information. This study aims to analyze strategic studies that need to be done in order to
protect medical electronic documents, patient data and health records produced in electronic environment today
from all natural and human disasters. Accordingly, the article focuses on the strategies that need to be
developed to protect electronic health records from various disasters and the methods of developing these
strategies. In the article, the literature review method was used to obtain the relevant resources. Descriptive
and document analysis, one of the qualitative analysis methods, was conducted on the general literature
collected and application examples were examined. In addition, evaluation results are supported by various
tables and numerical data. As a result of the study, it was determined that there are significant deficiencies in
the protection of health records in Turkey from disasters and recommendations were made in order to correct
these deficiencies and to provide better health services.
Structured Abstract: Living a healthy life is one of the fundamental rights of every person. Since ancient
times, mankind has made an effort to fight against diseases, to treat them and to protect themselves from
diseases / outbreaks in order to be healthy and instinctively. The desire for a healthy life has enabled people to
conduct medical research, to develop drugs, vaccines and new treatment methods. In order to benefit from
clinical and laboratory findings, patient and disease information in the field of medicine and health sciences, it
is very important that medical information be recorded and archived and accessible for reuse. For this reason,
it is necessary to store, protect and archive in electronic form and / or other formal formats by considering
