Subject and source Lychnophora markgravii G. M. Barroso (Asteraceae, Vernonieae) is a Brazilian endemic and restricted to the Gra ˜o-Mongol and Cabral Hills of Minas Gerais, Brazil. According to Robinson (1999), it is one of 34 species belonging to the Lychnophora genus, including Haplostephium Mart. ex DC. Earlier, Coile and Jones (1981) excluded L. markgravii from Lychnophora, however without reassignment. Roots and aerial parts of L. markgravii were collected in April 1996, by Dr Walter Vichnewski, near the town of Gra ˜o-Mongol, M.G., Brazil. The identification was performed by Dr Joa ˜o Semir, Departamento de Bota ˆnica, Instituto de Biologia, Unicamp, S.P., Brazil, where a voucher specimen has been deposited (UEC35.144, Vichnewski collection # 402). * Corresponding author.
