Running title: Rootstocks for ‘Rubin’ 103 FOLIA HORTICULTURAE Ann. 17/2, 2005, 103-110 Growth and fruiting of apple trees of cultivar Rubin on six dwarf rootstocks (preliminary results) Stanislaw Porębski, Wladyslaw Poniedzialek, Maciej Gąstol, Bernadeta Rzeźnicka Department of Pomology and Apiculture Faculty of Horticulture, Agricultural University in Kraków 29 Listopada 54, 31-425 Kraków, Poland e-mail: sporebski@ogr.ar.krakow.pl Key words: dwarfing, fruit quality ABSTRACT In the years 2002-2004 the effect of dwarf rootstocks M.9, P.16, P.61, M.27, PB.4 and BW on the growth and early stage of yielding of ‘Rubin’ apple trees was investigated. All the rootstocks were compared with M.9, which was used as a model. After preliminary investigations on the basis of the trunk cross-section area the rootstocks can be arranged in the following order of their growth vigour: BW (103%), M.9 (100%), PB.4 (97%), P.61 (94%), P.16 (92%), and M.27 (59%). In the first two years of fruit bearing trees on the M.9 rootstock gave the highest yield, these on PB.4, P.61 BW and P.16 a slightly lower one, while the lowest yield was obtained from trees on M.27. The highest productivity characterized trees on M.9 and the lowest those on M.27.
