Chapter 31 Performance Enhancement of Satellite Communication Subsystem Using 4 × 4 MIMO Gopesh Sharma, Himanshu Arora, Sourabh Banga, and Vijay Kumar Sharma 1 Introduction A number of challenges are faced by the wireless system engineers to provide higher data rate and higher channel capacity within available spectrum. These require new technologies that improve channel efficiency as well as energy efficiency. MIMO technology [1] is one of the technologies which promises to provide these capabilities. This paper has proven the possibility of MIMO system over satellite communication. Nowadays, satellite communication is very important wireless communication for a country and its people. Satellite communication has the important applications like military, navigation, radio and broadcast, global telephone, and global positioning system. A satellite communication subsystem provides channel for data transmis- sion, the data may be audio, video, or any other signal format, to users; thus, it gener- ates revenue for satellite designer. So, one should think about to increase channel capacity without increasing the power consumption. To improve the channel capacity, many successive satellites are introduced with large capacity and lower cost, but the number of users are increasing day by day which needs more channel bandwidth and G.
