127 Dimensi, Vol.18- No.1, September 2021 ILUSTRASI PADA MERCHANDISE SEBAGAI MEDIA UNTUK MEMBANGUN CULTURAL AWARENESS ANAK SEKOLAH DASAR DI KABUPATEN SIDOARJO Abstract Sidoarjo has culture in the form of traditions, arts and cultural heritage that are still preserved. Indonesian children are increasingly distant from their local culture and are more interested in cultures that come from outside so that it can cause children to forget and even become unknown to their local culture. Cultural awareness or cultural awareness is the ability to recognize and understand the infuence of culture on people’s values and behavior. Local culture needs to be instilled in students because it has good values and minimizes the negative infuence of outside culture. Through the design of merchandise with illustrations of Sidoarjo culture, it is hoped that it can increase the cultural awareness of elementary school children in the Sidoarjo area. The stages of the design process include data collection, data analysis, design concepts, design visualization, fnal design, and trial work using SWOT data analysis techniques. There are 5 kinds of culture that are illustrated, namely the Nyadran Tradition, the Bandeng Lelang Tradition, Banjar Kemuning Dance, Jaran Kepang Dance, and Candi Pari with explanatory texts which are then applied to 4 kinds of merchandise, namely t-shirts, pencil cases, drinking botles, and key chains. Through testing the work on elementary school children in the Sidoarjo area, the children’s response to merchandise is curiosity about culture while the benefts obtained include, they can fnd out the main elements of each culture displayed by merchandise.. Keyword: culture, Sidoarjo, cultural awareness, children, merchandise Abstrak Sidoarjo memiliki kebudayaan dalam bentuk tradisi, kesenian maupun cagar budaya yang masih dilestarikan. Anak-anak Indonesia semakin jauh dari kebudayaan daerahnya dan lebih tertarik pada budaya yang berasal dari luar sehingga dapat menyebabkan anak lupa bahkan buta terhadap budaya daerahnya. Cultural awareness atau kesadaran budaya merupakan kemampuan untuk mengenali dan memahami pengaruh budaya pada nilai-nilai dan perilaku masyarakat. Kebudayaan lokal perlu ditanamkan pada peserta didik karena memiliki nilai-nilai yang baik serta meminimalisir pengaruh negatif budaya luar. Melalui perancangan merchandise dengan ilustrasi kebudayaan Sidoarjo ini diharapkan mampu meningkatkan cultural awareness anak-anak SD di daerah Sidoarjo.
