Tukur, Department of Nursing University of Maiduguri Nigeria ABSTRACT The partograph is a tool that is proven to be efective in assisting midwives and other health care providers to identify prolongation of the labour; which can be associated with profound morbidity and even mortality. This study was aimed at determiningthe efectiveness of the paperless partograph in monitoring labour. Using a quasi-experimental design, 16 midwives were involved in monitoring of labour in 207 cases in a hospital in Katsina Nigeria. Results revealed that the paperless partograph is efective for monitoring labour with 91% of labours within normal time and through spontaneous vaginal delivery and 72% of babies born with good APGAR score at 1 minute of delivery. The study therefore recommended that midwives be trained in using the paperless partograph in our hospitals to ensure appropriate monitoring of labour progress.
