SERPANTIE ORSTOM BP 171 Bobo Dioulasso 01 - Burkina Faso Résumé Cet article introduit la question du rôle que jouent les jachères dans la production et la reproduction du parc arboré dans les savanes africaines. Analysant tout d'abord les fonctions matérielles et sociales, et donc les enjeux actuels du maintien du parc arboré, l'article établit le lien entre parc et jachères, puis expose une synthèse des trois contributions suivantes qui traitent le cas du karité. Il en ressort l'importance sociale et environnementale des espèces du parc, et l'intérêt d'en maîtriser la dynamique au moyens des outils disponibles dans le cas de l'économie libérale, en particulier la promotion des produits, l'organisation des producteurs, généralement des femmes, et la gestion communautaire décentralisée des petits espaces ruraux. This paper introduces the question of the functions of fallows for production and regeneration of wooded parkland in West-African savannas. Firstly analysing material and social functions, and also the actual stakes of protecting parkland, the paper shows the relationships between parkland and fallows. Thirdly, it states a synthesis of the three following papers which deal with the case of the shea-tree. It concludes on the social and environmental importance of the tree species of parkland, and on the interest of controling its dynamics by the tools wich are available in liberal economy, particularly marketing, organisation of producers (generally women), and decentralized "terroirs" management.
