Abstract Internet of Things is an emerging technology in which physical objects are made to communicate with each other smartly. Internet of Things (IoT) is a fast growing area, however, there are some concerns related to the security and privacy of the network. In this paper we give an overview of the various security issues and opportunities in IoT. Further, we give a comparative analysis of security in IoT and IPv6 followed by various algorithms and security frameworks for IoT. Further, it describes the security breaches possible within each layer, thereafter, imparting details about the various techniques and algorithms that can be incorporated within each layer in order to rectify the security problems.
