Introduction
A major challenge of modern synthesis is to develop effi-
cient cascades that provide maximum structural diversity
Abstract An efficient multi-component synthesis of inda-
zolophthalazine derivatives through the reaction of phthal-
hydrazide, 2-hydroxynaphthalene-1,4-dione or 2,5-dihy-
droxycyclohexa-2,5-diene-1,4-dione and active carbonyl
compounds under ultrasonic irradiation is reported. This
chemistry provides an efficient and promising synthetic
strategy to diversity-oriented construction of the indazoloph-
thalazine skeleton with potential biological activities.

and complexity with a minimum number of synthetic
steps for creation of highly functionalized molecules with
interesting properties [1–4]. One approach to address this
challenge involves the development of eco-friendly multi-
component procedures. Within the last decade, multi-com-
ponent reactions (MCRs) have been investigated exten-
sively in organic and diversity-oriented synthesis mainly
because of their convergent nature, superior atom economy,
