Developing an efcient medium access protocol is the signifcant issue in the wireless net- work that optimizes the reuse of spectral and hence increases the utilization of the aggre- gate channel. In such networks, to synchronize the user’s access to the shared medium, the protocol called as distributed medium access control (MAC) plays a major role. This work introduced an energy efcient MAC protocol utilizing a relay selection to mini- mize the consumption of power of a network. In this optimal power control protocol, the transmission foor area is reduced to improve the efciency of space–time utilization and reduce collisions. Based on the control packets interchanging, transmission power is opti- mally allocated to the transmitters to send the data packets to receivers. The time manage- ment protocols removes the interference. Simulations prove that this work achieves higher throughput, a reduced amount of energy and extend the lifetime of the network when com- pared with the ordinary MAC protocol.
