Fifty elite bread wheat lines received from CIMMYT, Mexico as 21 semi- st arid wheat yield trial were planted in randomized complete block design with two replications at Barani Agricultural Research Station, Kohat during the cropping season 2013-14. Data were recorded on days to heading, days to maturity, plant height and grain yield. Analysis of variance revealed highly significant differences among genotypes for all the traits studied. Twenty two (22) lines viz. E-308, 309, E-313-16, E-21-26, E-28, E-331-332, E-335, E-38, E-41-42, E-44, E-48 and E-49 were found higher yielding and disease resistant than check cultivar KT-2000. These entries need further scrutiny in preliminary and advance wheat yield trial for yield against multiple checks and across multi locations. Key words: Wheat Drought Screening Evaluation INTRODUCTION from CIMMYT, Mexico as 21 semi-arid wheat yield trial Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is the staple food for a potential, drought tolerance and disease resistance. However, the success achieved so far is not up to the mark and need due consideration in current and future breeding schemes. Therefore, the present study was undertaken to select early maturing, high yielding and disease resistant wheat line for rainfed areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. MATERIALS AND METHODS This experiment was under taken at Barani Agricultural Research Station (BARS) Kohat, during 2013-2014 cropping season. The experimental material comprised of forty nine (49) wheat genotypes received st (SAWYT) during Rabi-2013-14 to be tested for yield 2 5 1 Table a: Physico-chemical characteristics of experimental site at BARS, Kohat Parameter Unit Value pH - 7.61 EC x 10 ds/m 0.18 3 CaCO3 % 20 Organic Matter % 0.8625 Nitrogen % 0.0431 Phosphorus mg/kg 9.78 Potash mg/kg 104.5 Clay % 42 Silt % 38 Sand % 20 Textural Class - Clay loam
