Key words : Analysis Errors, grammar, writing INTRODUCTION Britton, et all (1975) conveys “Although writing is a atrenuous process, the process accesses and shapes thought”. Through the statement, writing ultimately does give new language speakers time to think and practice the language at the same time. Writing helps us develop the ability to truly communicate. However, Writing is a complex process even in the first language. Undoubtedly, it is more complicated to write in a foreign language. Consequently, lots of researchers have intended to identify the common errors English Foreign Language (EFL) students make in writing the second language. As an english lecturer of a college, I find students of college still find it very difficult to write english though they have been studying english for years since they were in junior high school until they are in college. Once, I asked the students to make a short paragraph about any topic. Then, I found many errors in their writing. Another time, when the students were asked to make summary from a text it happened that they made many errors. Some common mistakes and errors that students often do in their writing assignment, for example : 1. i will afraid and ran straight back home. 2. it doesn't matter because we got the experience as if it is traveling must complete malling letters. 3. arrives at home, father was waiting and locked me in the kitchen alone. 4. every time i wos only able to pray and hope that any medication that the doctor be the best medicine for my mom. 5. i do not want happen to me. 6. At my mothers face pale and inert because infusion drugs that stick in her hand. Many students often make several errors, general grammatical errors, substance errors (capitalization, punctuations, spelling) even in omission error, addition error, selection error, and disordering error. Those mistakes and errors in spelling and tenses are caused and influenced by Indonesian language pattern in their English writing. The errors can be partly because of the inter lingual transfer as Samuel Jhonson said in 1971, “To use two languages familiarly and without contaminating one by the other, is very difficult.”
