The present paper is the result of some experiments that took place at the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine from Cluj, Romania, Foreign Languages Division, and sets forth the importance of communicative skills for students of technical universities in general. The paper aims at giving some vital suggestions on how to apply the basics of oral presentation skills since public speaking is consistently rated a frightening experience. Three main stages to an effective oral presentation are discussed. The presenter has to go through a series of processes for collecting, selecting, organizing, and illustrating his data, keeping in mind the purpose of his presentation, and the needs and interests of his audience. The speaker needs to rehearse the presentation in order to be mentally ready for the job. The ingredients of an effective presentation are very important. The two major resources that the speaker can handle are language and body language. Good delivery involves much more than mere fluency in speaking. It includes the effective use of many visual and vocal cues. The speaker needs to create a co-operative climate, be courteous, receptive, flexible, responsive and professional in his approach. The purpose of this paper is to be helpful to anyone aspiring to be an effective public speaker. Keywords: communication, skill, speaker, audience, purpose, efficiency. The present paper aims at giving some suggestions on how to make effective presentations. It offers some basic and useful ideas, tips and strategies, which will help the presenter become more capable, efficient, and effective and produce a good presentation. Some are scared at the idea of standing in front of a gathering and giving a speech; others are thrilled at the prospects of communicating with a group of listeners. The preparation of any presentation should start with the choice of a topic, which should be appropriate for the audience, for the speaker and for the speech occasion. Topic is one of the two main aspects of a presentation: content and code, matter and manner, subject and style. Code, manner, and style refer to language and body language. Content, matter, and subject refer to ideas, thoughts, opinions, and information. We can say that topic is the soul of
