Introduction
Brown (2005) listed 42 species of Rhopobota in the world. Only two
species, R. unipunctata (Haworth) and R. relicta (Kuznetsov), have
been recorded in Korea to date (Byun et al., 1998).
In 1978, Kawabe described Griselda toshimai with a male of
holotype collected from Japan. He placed the species under the
genus Griselda Heinrich, 1923, probably because of the bifurcate
shape of the uncus. Later Kawabe et al. (1992) transferred Griselda
toshimai Kawabe, 1978 to the genus Epinotia Hübner. Brown (1983)
considered the presence of tegumentary projections in the male
genitalia and the caudal sclerotized bands of the corpus bursae in
the female as apomorphic characteristics of Rhopobota Lederer. For
this reason, Kuznetsov (2001) placed this species under the genus
Rhopobota.
Outside Japan, Zhang et al. (2005) recently reviewed the Chinese
species of Rhopobota, including R. toshimai Kawabe, 1978 from Taiwan.
During the study on the genus Spilonota Stephens, we found
several specimens of R. toshima Kawabe among the material series of
Spilonota ocellana [Denis and Schiffermüller] from South Korea. Based
on this examination, we report R. toshima Kawabe for the first time in
Korea. In the present study, we provide a brief description of the
species with data of distributional ranges. Material examined here will
be preserved in the entomological collection of Korea National
Arboretum, Korea.

Diagnosis. This species can be distinguished from other Rhopo-
bota species by the characteristics of cucullus with stout
rectangular projection and long triangular socius of the male
genitalia.
Adult (Fig. 1). Length of forewing 16 mm in male. Head and
antenna dark grayish brown; frons of head white. Labial palpus dark
grayish brown with white apex. Thorax and abdomen dark brownish
gray. Forewing grayish white, basal patch dark grayish brown,
covering about 1/4 of forewing, outer margin slightly swollen near
middle then sharply concaved near dorsum; medial fascia grayish
white suffused with light grayish brown streaks, rather broader near
costa then narrowed after middle of forewing, with brownish small
dots and narrow streaks along the costa; several small blackish spots
scattered along the outer margin of medial fascia medially; apex
somewhat round; cilia grayish brown, a little bit whitish towards
tornus. Hindwing pale grayish brown; cilia paler, with a pale basal
line.
Male genitalia (Fig. 2). Uncus short, horn-like. Socius broad, with
some hairs. Valva broad, rectangular basally, deeply concaved near
middle ventrally forming a neck. Sacculus thick, with dense long hairs
along the ventral margin. Cucullus consisting of two distinct sub-
rectangular plates, upper plate somewhat membranous covered with
numerous long hairs, lower plate rather sclerotized projecting
