Tinjauan Pustaka Peranan Biofilm dalam Kaitannya dengan Penyakit Infeksi Wani Devita Gunardi* * Staf Pengajar Bagian Mikrobiologi FK UKRIDA Alamat Korespondensi : Jl Terusan Arjuna No. 6 Jakarta Barat 11510 Abstrak Biofilm merupakan kumpulan dari sel-sel mikrobial yang melekat secara ireversibel pada suatu permukaan dan terbungkus dalam matriks Extracellular Polymeric Substances (EPS) yang dihasilkannya sendiri serta memperlihatkan adanya perubahan fenotip seperti perubahan tingkat pertumbuhan dan perubahan transkripsi gen dari sel planktonik atau sel bebasnya. Faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi perlekatan sel-sel bakteri dalam pembentukan biofilm adalah efek substratum (permukaan tempat melekatnya), conditioning film, hidrodinamik dari aliran yang melewatinya, karakteristik media cairan, dan keadaan permukaan sel bakteri yang akan melekat. Biofilm mempunyai peranan dalam infeksi penyakit. Namun proses yang sebenarnya bagaimana biofilm dapat menimbulkan penyakit dalam tubuh manusia belum sepenuhnya dimengerti. Beberapa mekanisme yang mungkin dapat menerangkan kaitan pembentukan biofilm dengan penyakit infeksi adalah lepasnya sel-sel biofilm atau agregasi sel, produksi endotoksin, resistensi terhadap sistem imun hospes, menjadi tempat untuk penyebaran organisme yang resisten, dan resistensi terhadap antibiotika. Kata kunci : biofilm, substrat ekstra polimer, quorum sensing Abstract A biofilm is a microbially derived sessile community characterized by cells that are irreversibly attached to a substratum or interface or to each aother are embedded in a matrix of extracelluler polymeric substances that they are produced and exhibit an altered phenotype with respect to growth rate and gene transcription. Factors that involved bactria attached in biofilm producing are substratum effect (the surfaces), conditioning film, hydrodynamic, fluid characteristics and the surface of bacteria cell. There was a association between the presence of the organism on biofilm and the disease. But how the real process that biofilm could make a disease not really understood for some of the diseases. Some mechanism that can explain the association between biofilm and the diases are releasing of biofilm cells or cell agregation, endotoxin productions, protection from immune system, tranmission of resistance microorganisms, and resistance of antibiotic.
