68 Growth and Yield Response of Melon (Cucumis melo L.) to The Usage of Mulch and Manure Fertilizer Rini Nur Rahmah 1) , Yacobus Sunaryo 2) , Lilik Kusdiarti 2) Email: rhinrahmah@gmail.com ABSTRACT This research had been conducted to examine the impact of mulching and manure dosage on the growth and yield of melon. The experiment was carried out in arid land of Ngasem Utara, Plembutan, Playen, Gunungkidul, from December 2014 until February 2015. The research used 3x3 factorial experiment arranged in Randomized Complete Block Design with 3 replications. The first factor was the kinds of mulches consistiny of 3 levels : without mulching, mulching with silver on black coloured plastic, and mulching with rice straw. The second factor was the manure dosages : 5, 10 , 15 tons ha -1 . Result of the experiment indicated that silver on black coloured plastic had significantly different on the growth compared with other mulching applications. Manure dosage application of 15 tons ha -1 resulted better growth that both dosage of 10 tons ha -1 and dosage of 5 tons ha -1 . The fruit productions was not maximum due to the infection of downy mildew on the leaves several weeks before harvesting.
