Signos Filosóficos, vol. XXIV, no. 47, January-June, 2022, 144-171 NICHE INHERITANCE SUPPOSES A RESTRICTED NOTION OF INHERITANCE GUSTAVO CAPONI ORCID.ORG/0000-0002-3975-8367 UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DE SANTA CATARINA DEPARTAMENTO DE FILOSOFIA gustavoandrescaponi@gmail.com Abstract: In order to understand and explain the evolutionary impact of the niche inheritance, it is necessary to appeal to the Theory of Natural Selection. However, this theory supposes a more restricted notion of inheritance than that advocated by the pro- moters of that enlarged notion, which today is considered one of the central points of the Extended Synthesis. The offer of selectable inheritable variants, which is crucial for explanations by natural selection, requires the intervention of developmental resources whose transgenerational transmission is vertical: linked to the reproductive process and associated, consequently, to the progenitor-progeny relationship. Without recognizing the specificity of this form of transmission of developmental resources, the idea of niche inheritance cannot work.
