SPORTS MEDIA COMMUNICATION DURING A PANDEMIC:
COMMUNICATIVE DISCOURSE ASPECT
Summary. The article considers the analysis of sports media communication during the pandemic in the
framework of the communicative-discursive aspect. It was determined that COVID-19 had the signifcant
impact on the sports sphere, the introduced restrictive measures accelerated the digitalization of the sports
business and implemented projects based on online technologies. The main goal is to study sports media
communication during the pandemic in the communicative-discursive aspect. In the process of analysis of
scientifc literature, sports discourse and its genres were substantiated, namely: news, report, chronicle,
analytical article, interviews, books of scientifc or artistic style, lyrical genres, messages of athletes on
social networks and microblogs, television and radio programs, music and cinema, advertising. Based on
the analysis, commentary is the most important genre of online sports discourse, as it has an emotional
impact. The communicative strategies and tactics used in sports discourse are analyzed in detail. The
main ones are the information-interpretive strategy and the strategy of formation of the addressee’s emo-
tional state, which are aimed at the forming, changing the psychological state of the recipients. Relevant
tactics of their implementation are analyzed. It is proved that the appearance of media text helped to build
a new system of media functioning. With the spread of the epidemic there was a redistribution of roles
between the media and there was a shift in the information orientation inherent in sports discourse from
the standpoint of commenting on sporting events, to strengthen the entertainment and create new hybrid
types of text. It is proved that in the genre system of sports Internet discourse, commentary occupies an
important place, which has three main goals: informing, outlining and evaluating a sports event. It has
been proven that virtual reality during the coronovirus outbreak played an important role in the process
of communication and meeting their own needs, users have the opportunity to attend football, basketball
and other matches and sports competitions online.
