Abstract The expressions relating the integrated optical density (as obtained from an integrating Weissenberg goniometer) with the average or maximum density of a reflection have been deduced. Those expressions have been used to estimate the increase in exposure time of an integrated Weissenberg photograph over normal exposure time. Introduction It is common experience that exposure time of an integrated Weissenberg photograph (IWP) is considerably larger than the exposure time needed for a photograph without integration (simply called WP hereafter). Though such an increase in exposure time of IWP over normal exposure time is obvious qualitatively, it is interest- ing to compareutpleaPD D(P), the optical density in the plateau region formed inyxwvutsrqponmlihgfedcbaWSPI Ν oscillations by the process of integration, with the mean density, D D, or the maximum density, D 0 (max), of the same reflection recorded in Ν oscillations on a WP. Such a comparison provides a quantitative estimate of the increase in exposure time of IWP over normal exposure time.
