The method used in this article is descriptive analysis and a philosophical approach. The results of the analysis show that the epistemological concept of al-Ghazali culminates in knowledge of God (ma’rifatullah) which is called mukâsyafah. So that a scientist who is at this level means he is at the highest level of thought in his metaphysics. The ultimate goal of al-Ghazali’s teachings is to appeal to this highest thought. This can be seen from two phases of al-Ghazali’s epistemology; mu’âmalah and mukâsyafah, where the mu’âmalah phase is an imperfect epistemology.
