Merdeka belajar adalah kebebasan berpikir dan kebebasan inovasi. Sedangkan kampus merdeka adalah lanjutan program merdeka belajar untuk pendidikan tinggi. Transformasi pendidikan melalui kebijakan merdeka belajar merupakan salah satu langkah untuk mewujudkan SDM unggul Indonesia. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menggambarkan kontribusi pemimpin perguruan tinggi dalam meningkatkan mutu pendidikan di era MBKM. Metode Penelitian ini melalui penelitian deskriptif dengan metode survey. Subjek penelitian ini Ketua Program Studi, Sekretaris Program Studi, Dosen, dan Mahasiswa di tiga perguruan tinggi swasta di Jawa Barat. Hasil penelitian menyatakan pimpinan yang ada di perguruan tinggi swasta telah mampu melaksanakan tugasnya sebagai pemimpin di unitnya masing-masing. Hal tersebut dibuktikan dengan gambaran persentase yang dihasilkan melalui survey. Pimpinan telah memiliki perilaku kepemimpinan dengan persentase paling tinggi pada indikator human skill. Selanjutnya pemimpin telah memiliki pengetahuan tentang nilai-nilai moral. Pempimpin perguruan tinggi juga telah memiliki integritas sebagai seorang pemimpin yang ideal dan visioner bagi perguruan tinggi yang dikelolanya sehingga mendukung berbagai kegiatan dalam program MBKM di perguruan tinggi swasta. Abstract Quality educational institutions can be realized if they are supported by leaders who have a leadership spirit because one of the most important aspects affecting the quality of education in leadership is to produce superior human resources. Freedom to learn is freedom of thought and freedom of innovation. Meanwhile, the independent campus is a continuation of the independent learning program for higher education. The transformation of education through the policy of independent learning is one of the steps to realizing Indonesia's superior human resources. The purpose of this study is to describe the contribution of higher education leaders in improving the quality of education in the MBKM era. Methods This research is done through descriptive research with a survey method. The subject of this research is the Head of the Study Program, Secretary of the Study Program, Lecturers, and Students at three private universities in West Java. The results of the study stated that the leaders in private universities have been able to carry out their duties as leaders in their respective units. This is evidenced by the percentage picture generated through the survey. Leaders have leadership behavior with the highest percentage on the human skill indicator. Furthermore, the leader already knows moral values. Higher education leaders also have integrity as ideal and visionary leaders for the universities they manage so that they support various activities in the MBKM program at private universities .
