Al 7075 alloy is such a high strength and corrosion resistant aluminium alloy. EDM is a non conventional machining process that is employed for hard to cut materials. In that case optimal parameter setting is of primary importance during its machining that involves multi objective optimisation problems. This paper deals with the multi objective optimisation of MRR and SR in Al7075 alloy using Grey relational analysis. In this paper single objective optimisation is found out initially using Taguchi’s technique. And later the problem is converted into multi- objective and solved by Grey relational analysis. Experimental design has been made according to the L9 orthogonal array. ANOVA has been done individually and simultaneously to find out the significant factors affecting the single objective and multi objective problem. Mathematical models were also made to develop a relationship between the input and output process parameters. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. Introduction EDM is a machining method especially used for difficult to machine metals which are electrically conductive. It makes possible to work with metals for which the conventional methods became ineffective. The scope of using a thermoelectric source of energy in developing the non-conventional machining techniques has a great influence on economic side of machining jobs of the materials having very low machinability materials and difficult to cut jobs. The mechanism of material removal by controlled erosion through a series of electric sparks, commonly known as EDM, was first started in the USSR around 1943. Lots of research and process developments were made to this technique since 1943. In this process the material removal occurs due to spark erosion technique. Both tool and work piece are submerged in a dielectric fluid .Kerosene/EDM oil/deionized water is commonly used dielectric and in certain cases gaseous dielectrics are also used. S.H. Lee et al. (2001) study the influence of operating parameters of EDM of tungsten carbide on the machining characteristics. * Corresponding author.
