Reasons for this evolution include the downfall of apartheid, free healthcare, poor access to services, human resource constraints, increasing demand for service delivery, nancial constraints, and a healthcare system that is in transit in its move towards a national health insurance framework. The training and education of helping professionals require that graduates leaving academic institutions are responsive to the changing needs of society and clients at the receiving end of health service provision. Systemic changes, the need for a decolonized curriculum and model of teaching, and a demand for diversity among professionals have meant that the dialogue, physical space, and composition of the lecture room today are considerably different from J.
