Abstract: the article is devoted to the study of the relationship between legal doc- trine and professional thinking of lawyers within the framework of the Western tradition of law. The paper substantiates the thesis that one of the leading func- tions of legal doctrine is the function of standardizing the professional thinking of lawyers. The article consists of four parts. The first defines the doctrinal nature of Romano-Germanic law. In the second, the concept is revealed and the “levels” of legal thinking are briefly characterized. The third part explains the process of re- gulation of professional thinking, defines its nature, means, methods and results. The fourth part outlines the limits of the doctrinal regulation of lawyers' thinking.
