Since time immemorial sportsmen have created and broken records and their achievements and success stories have inspired generations. With the contribution of different sportspersons the country has won many glories at International level. Among these sports persons who brought laurels for the country, Master Chandgi Ram keeps a unique place. It is only because of the contribution which he made in his field of sports that is wrestling. The contribution of Padama Shree, Arjuna Awardee, Hind Kesari Master Chandgi Ram is remarkable. He devoted his whole life to promote wrestling in India. He did not lose any fight against any opponent. He became famous and a sensation after winning gold medal in Asian Games (1970) by defeating world champion Amvani Abuifazi of Iran under 100kg. Master Chandgi Ram won many titles throughout his life. He was a sensation of his field during 1960 – 1970. Some of the titles he won are:- Hind Kesari title three times in the years 1962. 1968 and 1972. Bharat Kesari title two times in the years 1968 and 1969. Rustam -E- Hind title in the year 1969. Bharat Bhim title in the years 1969 and 1970. Recipient of “Arjuna Award” in the year 1969 by Government of India. Recipient of “Padama Shree” in the year 1971 by Government of India. As a player: - Master Chandgi Ram was an excellent player of wrestling. He did not lose even a single bout though he had travelled all over India and abroad. He dedicated his life to the game of wrestling. His teammates, colleagues, contemporaries and sports persons strongly agreed that he was built for wrestling only. It was his routine to start a day and end a day working in “Akhara”. An opinion rating questionnaire has been organized among his colleagues, teammates and sportspersons which shows his unmatched quality and dedication towards sports.
