REVERSE MODELLING PROCESS TO SUPPORT OF A FLEMISH WOODEN ALTARPIECE PHYSICAL RESTORATION This study focuses on digital Computer Aided Restoraton procedures to guide the complex physical restoraton of an artwork, innovatng and implementng traditonal survey methods. As a case study some results are presented of a complex and artculated conservatve restoraton project on a sculpted and painted wing altar, preserved in the Regional Gallery of Sicily in Palazzo Abatellis, Palermo. The applicaton of non-invasive and high informaton density 3D survey methodologies allowed to record and integrate into a unique digital platorm (designed within the UnReal Engine) a wide quantty of heterogeneous data which document the work’s state (diagnostc analyses, graphical annotaton, historical informaton). The multdisciplinary investgaton process is aimed to guide the disassembly of the various components, to tell the long process of actvity in the laboratory and to experiment the realizaton and integraton of Keywords: Cultural Heritage survey, Informaton systems, Restauraton, 3D digitzaton, Semantc descrip- ton Gianfranco Di Miceli Born in 1987 in Palermo, in 2015 he obtained the mas- ter’s degree in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage and, in 2021, in Art History. Among the main res- torations there are the musical instruments of the Rijksmuse- um in Amsterdam, the mosaics of the Roman Villa del Casale in Piazza Armerina and the medieval ceiling of Palazzo Chiaromonte in Palermo. Yuri Alogna Yuri Alogna is a Building En- gineer-Architect, he deals with 3D Visualization, Virtual reality, Archviz, modeling and optimized graphic rendering of models acquired using SFM and Laser Scanning technolo- gy, procedural and parametric texture manipulation, Virtual Tours, and programming in the Unreal Engine environment missing parts. The innovatve applicaton of 3D digital technologies shows how the integrated use of the new technology can be a useful tool for improving the conservaton of a work of art. The data processed have permited a beter interpretatve reading, implementng the knowledge of the scholars, and a more efectve communicaton and fruiton to the audience.
