Fabula 2019; 60(3–4): 304–317 Mohamed Radi L’espace et le fantastique dans les voyages de Sindbad le marin The Space and the Fantastic in Sindbad the Sailor’s Voyages Der Raum und das Fantastische in den Reisen des Seefahrers Sindbad https://doi.org/10.1515/fabula-2019-0019 Abstract: This study aims at examining the space and the fantastic in the first three voyages of Sindbad the Sailor in the Thousand Nights and One Night tales. These voyages are at the origin of skipping over reality. The tale of Sindbad the Sailor is a perfect stimulus for our remarks. This tale delivers a story in which the places and the position of the character in the core of the space are sources of the fantastic. In Sindbad’s voyages, space does not remain constantly in the back- ground of the fantastic narratives. Rather, it can be a source of the unusual or the supernatural or, it can be the monster itself. Thus, it participates in the fantastic dynamics of the story. Zusammenfassung: Diese Studie zielt darauf ab, den Raum und das Fantastische in den ersten drei Reisen von Sindbad, dem Seefahrer aus den Märchen von Tau- sendundeine Nacht, zu erforschen. Die Geschichte des Seefahrers Sindbad dient als symbolischer Ausgangspunkt für unsere Betrachtung, in welcher der Raum als Quelle für das Seltsame und das Wunderbare gilt. Diese Märchen stellen Geschichten dar, in denen die Figur im Mittelpunkt des Raumes steht, so dass der Raum zu einer Quelle des Übernatürlichen wird. In den Reisen des Seefah- rers bleibt der Raum nicht immer hinter dem Geschehen zurück. Ganz im Gegen- teil dazu kann er zur Quelle für Ungewöhnliches oder Übernatürliches werden oder sich sogar in eine Bestie verwandeln und so die Dynamik der fantastischen Geschichte vorantreiben.
