Introduction Small and medium enterprises are one of the economic sectors that make a significant contribution to the economy of a country (Najib et al., 2020). The restaurant industry is an industry that has a high potential to continue to grow in Indonesia. From human resource management perspective, an employee with high commitment is one of the most important to be maintained by every firm, in this context the restaurant industry. The organizational commitment of an employee has a very important role to achieve the firm’s goals. Without commitment, it will have an impact on less than optimal employees at work. Organizational commitment is one of the factors that can improve employee performance at work (Siregar et al., 2020), and will make the employee more innovative at the workplace (Siregar et al., 2021). Without the organizational commitment from an employee, employees will work not wholeheartedly and tend to only want to carry out their duties without any intention to achieve the the firm’s goal. Anggraini, (2019) also said that the quality of work life is one of the most important factors to be considered by the company so that employees feel happy and not intend to leave the company. Saimir & Jonida, (2013) explains that job satisfaction and organizational commitment are very important to maintain, because job satisfaction and employee commitment will improve their performance at work. Several studies have proven that one of the factors that can increase employee commitment is the quality of work (Radja et al., 2013; Farid et al., 2015;Huang et al., 2007; Chinomona & Dhurup, 2014; Els et al., 2021). Radja et al., (2013) found a strong correlation between the quality of work life and employee commitment. Akhtar et al., (2011) also added that the quality of work life can enhance the employee commitment at work. Contrary to findings by Asharini et al., (2018) found that the quality of work life did not affect employee commitment to work. Besides that, several studies (Jabeen et al., 2018; Alrawadieh et al., 2020) shows that job satisfaction also can increase employee work commitment. The results of research conducted by Haeruddin et al.,(2018) shows that job satisfaction has a positive and significant effect on commitment. Also added to the results of research conducted by Siregar, Syahputra, et al., (2020;Asharini et al., 2018) shows the effect of job satisfaction on work commitment. Employee satisfaction with company policies, compensation provided, working conditions have a relationship with organizational commitment (Feinstein & Vondrasek, 2002).
