For this reason various private as well as publice players feels interested to opt for e-learning practices for employee development. This paper highlights the use of e-learning as employee development practices opted by various firms in the Telecom Sector. The paper uses review method for finding the related information. As a result it explores the advantages of e-learning which makes it an important practice for employee development, individual and firm performance. Keywords: Telecom Sector, e-Trainings 1. Introduction The Indian Telecom sector is the fastest growing sector with TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) as the governing body to lay down policies and regulations for this sector. This has made the environment more conductive at affordable tariffs for the consumers (ASA & Associates LLP, Report on Telecom Sector, 2015). In last few decades telecom industry has widened its accessibility making millions of people to stay connected. With the evolution of technology and content developing tools, more and more initiatives are being taken in the usage of digital learning practices and technologies. The increasing trend in accessing content through online mode had made it essential to develop and offer elearning courses for enhancing the skills of workforce. Therefore, it becomes equally important for the telecom companies to have trained workforce so as to survive in the fierce competition. For which most of the companies are already coming up with various authoring tools and products for imparting trainings to their workforce. 1.1 Indian Telecom Sector: At A Glance Indian telecom sector is more than 160 years old (VasudhaDhingra, Kamlesh Gakhar, 2014). Till now this sector has experienced an enormous growth marking the monthly growth rate of 0.52% in the number of telephone subscribers in September-October, 2014. The monthly growth rates of urban and rural subscriptions were 0.18% and 1.03% respectively (ASA report). Also the overall teledensity in India has also increased from 76.75 at the end of September, 2014 to 77.07 at the end of October, 2014 (as per ASA report). The telecom ecosystem mainly comprises of Telecom Operators, Telecom Manufacturers/Vendors, Telecom Infrastructure and Handset Providers. Basically, back-end technology is mainly provided by Telecom operators, Telecom manufacturers or vendors and telecom infrastructure. Telecom operators are the main players in this ecosystem that are shown below based on their market share. Namely, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, Reliance, MTNL/BSNL, Aircel, Tata, Telenor, Sistema Shyam, Videocon, Quadrant.
