Donato 5, Bologna 40126, Italy Abstract Inthispaperweproposeanumericalmethodforthereconstructionofdynamicmag- neticresonanceimagesfromlimiteddataintheFourierspace.Insomemedicaldynamic applications,temporalsequencesofmagneticresonancedataofthesamesliceofthebody are acquired. In order to hasten the acquisition process, only the low frequencies are acquiredforallthedatasets,withtheexceptionofthefirstonewhichiscompletelyacquired. Then,itisnotpossibletouseaFouriertechniquetoobtainhighresolutionimagesfromlim- iteddata.Intheproposedmethod,theimagesofthesequencearerepresentedviaaB-spline parametricmodelusingaprioriinformationfromthefirstimage.TheuseofB-splinesisdue totheircomputationalefficiencyandtheirgoodbehaviourinimagefittingandrepresenta- tion.Theuseofthisparametricmodelallowstoobtainhighresolutionimagesofgoodqual- ity and zoom regions of interest without loosing important details. Mathematical and numericalaspectsofthemethodareinvestigatedandanoutlineofthealgorithmisgiven. Reconstructionsfromsimulatedandexperimentaldataarepresentedandanalyzed. Ó 2004 Elsevier Inc.
