A pediatric patient model of a five-year-old child with primary dentition was developed and a caries model that is amenable to VR(virtual reality) diagnosis was organized and set-up. The dental student’s were allowed to use the simulated model for ffteen minutes and their experiences were evaluated using a self-reported questionnaire to evaluate presence and usability of this application. Overall, virtual presence and appearance area of the simulation were highly scored. The result indicates that the VR model has no signifcant difference from the actual clinical caries regardless of grade of students, gender and VR experience. If the prototype is continuously advanced, its applicability in dental education will increase. Key words : Virtual reality, Caries diagnosis, Dental education, Dental student Abstract 293 Corresponding author : Namki Choi Department of Pediatric Dentistry, School of Dentistry, Chonnam National University, 33 Yongbong-ro, Buk-gu, Gwangju, 61186, Republic of Korea Tel: +82-62-530-5660 / Fax: +82-62-530-5669 / E-mail: nkchoi@jnu.ac.kr Received January 22, 2020 / Revised March 18, 2020 / Accepted March 12, 2020 Ⅰ. 서 론 가상현(Virtual reality, VR)이라 불리는 기은 가상의 환경 서 청각 및 오감을 통한 경험을 하고, 촉각 등의 감각적 피 드백을 받는 상호작용을 의미한다. 이는 공간적 제한이 이 상대적으로 저렴하고, 게 접하며, 제 환경 대해 높은 정확 도의 정보를 표현하고, 교육 분서 획기적인 기회를 제공하 는 측면서 각광받고 있다[1]. 특히 최근 몇 년간, 의학 영역 서 가상현 기의 발달이 크게 발달되왔다[2]. 가상현을 이용한 치의학 분 대한 접근은, 치과의사나 치과대학 학생들게 치 와동 형성, 하치조 경 전달 마취 같 은 훈련, 구강 면   전 기 훈련, 치과 공포증을 갖는 환자서 공포을 극복하게 하는 도까지 다하게 이루지 고 있다[3-5]. 치의학 전공 학생들은 임상 진료 작 전까지 환자와 직 접 통할 기회가 적고, 외래 관찰을 통한 단 경험이 대부분이 서 치과의사가 되을 때 직접적인 환자의 진단을 위한 경험이 부족한 상태이다[6]. 치과학의 교육 영역도 가상현  기을 이용한 교육의 필요성이 대두되고 있다[7]. 따라서 만  제 임상상황과 유사한 VR 경험을 제공하면 이러한 점을 보 완 할  있을 것이다. 이 연구는 임상  전의 치의학 전공 학 생들게  환자서 치우 진단을 경험하게 하는 가상현  프로그램을 개발하여 적용해보고, 응용가능성을 평가해보고 자 하였다.
