Polymer based composites are being aptly used materials in engineering applications due to high specific strength and stiffness. The addition of fillers willenhance the mechanical properties of polymer matrix composites. With reference to this, mechanical properties such as ultimate tensile strength, impact strength and hardness of polymer matrix composites with different fillers are reviewed. Polymer matrix composites with different polymers/fibers aremixed with varying ratios of fillers like, aluminum oxide (Al 2 O 3 ), silicon carbide (SiC), calcium carbonate (CaCO 3 ), Magnesium hydroxide(Mg(OH)2)and zinc oxide (ZnO) were used to study the mechanical properties. From the analysis it was found that fillers are exhibited enhanced mechanical properties of polymer matrix composites. And also, the major factors like, dispersion of fillers and distribution, adhesion and interface between filler and polymer matrix will also affecting the mechanical properties of polymer composites. © 2018 Elsevier Ltd.
