Through the elaboration of classical text books, the study succeeded in explaining the fact that over the years, classical ulamâ thought has been used as a source of social ethics in boarding schools. The problem is, in the formal education environment, that thinking is not yet well known. This condition is the background of this study. By analyzing the contents of the text of this study conclude to find a proper learning ethics guided by students in formal educational institutions. These ethics are deliberation; patient, steadfast and determined; be brave; not following the passions; make friends with good people; respect for science and teachers; seriousness in learning; pay attention to the teacher’s words; try while praying; discussing; always grateful; not easily discouraged; always resignation; love each other; not be prejudiced; being polite; and increase prayer. Abstrak Kajian ini menggunakan metode analisis isi atas sejumlah literatur pemikiran pendidikan Islam klasik. Melalui elaborasi teks-teks kitab klasik, kajian berhasil memaparkan fakta bahwa selama bertahun-tahun, pemikiran ulama klasik sudah dijadikan sebagai salah satu sumber etika pergaulan di lingkungan pondok pesantren. Masalahnya, di lingkungan pendidikan formal, pemikiran itu belum begitu dikenal. Kondisi inilah yang menjadi latar belakang penelitian ini. Dengan menganalisis isi teks penelitian ini berhasil menemukan etika belajar yang layak dipedomani peserta didik di lembaga pendidikan formal. Etika-etika tersebut adalah musyawarah; sabar, tabah dan tekun; bersikap berani; tidak mengikuti hawa nafsu; berteman dengan orang baik; menghormati ilmu dan guru; kesungguhan dalam belajar; mencermati perkataan guru; berusaha sambil berdoa; berdiskusi; senantiasa bersyukur; tidak mudah putus asa; senantiasa tawakkal; saling mengasihi; tidak berprasangka buruk; bersikap wara’; dan memperbanyak shalat.
