MEDIA SOSIAL TIDAK MENGENAL RUANG Sri Ekawati Fakultas Hukum Universitas Muhammadiyah Pontianak Abstrak The development of information technology brings a change in society. The birth of social media makes people's behavior patterns experience a shift in culture, ethics and existing norms. Indonesia with a large population with various ethnic, racial and religious cultures has a lot of potential for social change. Social media is a digital platform that facilitates its users to socialize with each other, be it communicating or sharing content in the form of writing, photos and videos. All content that is shared will be open to the public in real time. The beginning of the creation of social media itself occurred on May 24, 1844. Social media was originally a series of electronic dots and lines typed on a telegraph machine. It was also around this time that Samuel Morse sent the first telegraphic message to the public. Social media has succeeded in connecting almost everyone who has internet access, the creation of social media does not cover the possibility of having a negative side, but from the negative side there are positive things about social media where it is easier for someone to communicate, then the way someone communicates build an image in the eyes of many people (branding), social media is a place of business and marketing. Lahirnya media sosial menjadikan pola perilaku masyarakat mengalami pergeseran baik budaya, etikan dan norma yang ada. Indonesia dengan jumlah penduduk yang besar dengan berbagai kultur suku, ras dan agama yang beraneka ragam memiliki banyak sekali potensi perubahan sosial.
