The library was established by Debra Lunn and Michael Morwska, a designer and a batik observer from the United States of America. This public library provides hundreds of English children's storybooks and the books have to be translated into Indonesian to facilitate non-English speakers to understand and enjoy them. To support the effort, English majoring students in Solo and surrounding areas are involved in an internship program to produce non-commercial translations. Hundreds of books have been translated into Indonesian and enjoyed by visitors who do not understand English. Nonetheless, there are several problems faced by Ganesa Library as the partner of this assistance program, including 1) the quality of the translations produced by the interns is inadequate in terms of the accuracy of the message, acceptability, and language suitability for the target readers, 2) the partner does not have translation editing and quality assurance team to assess and revise the translations, and 3) an image-degrading potential of the Ganesa Library related to the inadequate translations can happen, particularly regarding the accuracy of the message conveyed and information suitability resulting in the decreasing of the readers’ satisfaction. To solve those problems, the community service team has applied two methods: 1) enhancing the understanding of the translation quality of the storybooks for children by conducting training and development activities and 2) enhancing the understanding of the basic principles and strategies in translation editing of children storybooks, as well as the application of those principles and strategies through assistance activities. The results show that the series of activities can improve the ability of the interns and staff of Ganesa Library in assessing the translation quality and editing the translations.
