THE INFLUENCE OF META-COGNITIVE AWARENESS, LOGICAL THINKING SKILL, AND LEARNING INDEPENDENCE ON MATHEMATICS OUTCOMES OF STUDENTS IN CLASS VIII AT SMPN IN PALLANGGA SUBDISTRICT OF GOWA DISTRICT Norma Nasir, Arif Tiro, Suwardi Annas Mathematics Education Postgraduate Program Universitas Negeri Makassar, Indonesia E-mail: normanasir1995@yahoo.com ABSTRACK The purposes of this research are to discover the direct and indirect influence of the variables ofmeta-cognitive awareness, logical thingking skills, and learning independence on mathematics learning outcomes of students in class VIII public junior high school (SMPN) in Pallangga sub-district of Gowa district. This research is an ex-post facto research with causality. The research samples were 194 students taken by using cluster random sampling. The instruments used consisted of meta- cognitive awareness questionnaires, logical thingking ability tests, learning independence questionnaires, and tests of mathematics learning outcomes. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and inferensial statistical analysis (path analysis). The results of this researchreveal that (1) most of the students have meta- cognitive awareness in medium category, logical thinking skills is in medium category, learning independence is in high category, and learning outcomes are in medium category, (2) meta-cognitive awareness gives positive influence directly on mathematics learning outcomes of students with coefficient of 0.245, (3) the logical thingking skill gives positive influence directlyon mathematics learning outcomes of students with coefficient of 0.167, (4) learning independence gives positive influence directly on mathematics learning outcomes of students with coefficient of 0.436, (5) meta-cognitive awareness gives positive influence indirectly on mathematics learning outcomes through learning independence of students in class VIII at SMPN in Pallangga sub-district of Gowa district with coefficient of 0.476, (6) logical thingking skill gives positive influence indirectly on mathematics learning outcomes through learning independence of students in class VIII at SMPN in Pallangga sub-district of Gowa district with coefficient of 0.221.
