Application of the Global Reporting Initiative
Sustainability Reporting Framework in Greece

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to study corporate social responsibility
reporting in Greece. Several aspects of corporate social responsibility and
reporting are discussed with a particular focus on the Global Reporting
Initiative Sustainability Reporting Framework. Its state, trends and evolution
are outlined and the country reporting index as well as the region reporting
index are introduced. The case of Greek companies and the diffusion of the
aforementioned reporting framework in Greece are examined. In addition,
corporate social responsibility reports issued by 35 Greek companies in 2011
are analysed with respect to the performance indicators used.

Biographical notes: Olga Myrgioti holds an MBA degree from the Hellenic
Open University and a degree in Economic Sciences from the University of
Mecedonia, Greece. For several years, she has worked in the University of
Thessaly, Greece, as a Study Coordinator in clinical trials at the University
General Hospital of Larissa, Greece.
Giannis T. Tsoulfas is a Scientific Associate at the Presidency of the Hellenic
Republic and Tutor at the Master in Business Administration Programme in the
Hellenic Open University. He holds a Dipl-Ing in Mechanical Engineering
from the University of Patras, Greece and a PhD in Industrial Management and
Technology from the University of Piraeus, Greece. In the past, he has worked
as a Consultant Engineer in various engineering companies. His published
work has appeared in several international journals and edited books.
Nikos P. Rachaniotis is an Assistant Professor of Operations Management in
College of Business, Zayed University, UAE. He received his Bachelor in
Mathematics and his MSc in Statistics and Operational Research from the
National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece, and his PhD in
Operational Research from the University of Piraeus, Greece. He has published
in several international journals and collective volumes.
