What skills should a future teacher develop during their time at university? A total of 1047 responses from student teachers entering university in 2021 and 2022 were analysed. The results show that future teachers consider the development of ethics and responsibility, empathy and managing student behaviour in the classroom as the most important skills to develop at university. It is concluded that having interaction skills is more important than conceptual mastery to be a good teacher according to this group of preservice teachers. Se analizaron 1047 respuestas de estudiantes de pedagogía al ingresar a la universidad los años 2021 y 2022. Los resultados arrojan que los futuros profesores consideran el desarrollo de la ética y responsabilidad, la empatía y el manejo del comportamiento de los estudiantes en la sala de clases como las habilidades más importantes a desarrollar en la universidad. Se concluye que tener habilidades para interactuar es más importante que el dominio conceptual para ser buen profesor según este grupo de futuros docentes.
