1 Intersection of discourses and singularity. Ethical issues of the mental health practice in institutional settings. 1 Gabriela Z. Salomone, PhD The current research project, entitled Ethical dilemmas in psychological practice: the dialogue with other disciplinary discourses in varied institutional contexts. Descriptive exploratory study on the basis of a cuali-quantitative investigation (UBACyT 2012-2015), aims at the study of the ethical issues of mental health practice developed in various institutional settings (of mental health, educational, labour, hospitals, judicial, etc.), especially regarding the encounter with institutional normative systems and the dialogue with other academic disciplinary discourses and their practices. Both circumstances are often propitious to generating dilemmatic situations, in which psychologist's work is shaped by that intersection of discourses in a controversial way, especially regarding the clinical dimension of the psychological work based on the singularity approach and the basis of the professional function. ETHICS DILEMMAS - MENTAL HEALTH - INSTITUTIONAL NORMS - DISCIPLINARY DISCOURSES - SINGULARITY Under the title Ethical dilemmas in psychological practice: the dialogue with other disciplinary discourses in varied institutional contexts. Descriptive exploratory study on the basis of a cuali-quantitative investigation (UBACyT 2012-2015) 2 , the research project that currently frames our activities aims to analyse the dilemmatic situations faced by mental health professionals when carrying out their practices in institutional settings. To this end, we have highlighted in particular two specific issues to consider: the coexistence in the institutions of various disciplinary discourses and the normative systems that they establish. Such circumstances suppose a diversity of discursive crossings that, frequently, generate questions regarding the psychologists’ function, intimately linked to the singular dimension. Regarding the first point, let us point out that, in addition to the variety of institutions in which psychologists develop their work –mental health, educational, labour, hospital, judicial, or other–, the diversity of academic and applied disciplines and their professional practice must also be taken into account –whether legal, health, educational, labour, medical, etc.– that may concur in a given institutional environment. It is worth mentioning that, frequently, far from reaching the common conceptual construction of the problem to be addressed, which defines an interdisciplinary approach (Stolkiner, 1999), the simultaneous work with other professions and their conceptual corpus results in intricate situations in which the psychologists’ work is conditioned by this interaction. Sometimes these other discourses impose their procedures, methods, intervention modalities, which can be controversial for the development of our tasks, confronting psychologists with ethical dilemmas, not only referring to the clinical aspects of their practice but also to professional duties. The second point that we mentioned above refers to the normative systems of the various institutional spheres, which establish guidelines for institutional functioning and 1 Published in Anuario de Investigaciones, vol.
