Abstract— India is one of those countries where
mechanized processes in the agriculture sector are
being adopted at a rapid pace. Most crops especially
rice, are labour driven and require about 70-85 labour
days per acre. Since large workforce is involved in
agriculture, the process becomes time consuming and
expensive. Nowadays it has become difficult to obtain
labour and water at the right time for various
activities of farming. Thus, to conquer these problems
there is a requirement of mechanical tools in the field
of crop cultivation. One such tool being a mechanical
crop transplanter. The focus of this machine is to
develop a machine which will address issues faced by
farmers in terms of manpower and resources. This
paper is aimed towards a transplanter which is based
on a simple four bar mechanism and runs on solar
power. The mechanism includes a crank, which is
rotated with the help of a DC motor. The crank moves
the rocker link with the help of a connecting rod. The
connecting rod is used as the picking arm to plant the
seedlings into the ground. Using the connecting rod as
picking arm is more efficient than using the rocker
because the connecting rod can perform general
motion. The motor is powered by a rechargeable
battery, which can be charged by the help of solar
energy as well as through domestic power supply. This
transplanter will be very economical for small scale
farmers who are planning to start farming and are
looking for relatively cheaper methods of cultivation.
Keywords—Transplanter, four-bar mechanism, solar,

I. INTRODUCTION
Crop transplantation is perhaps the most crucial method
where small seeds are sown at one place and they are
transplanted to another field after the seeds take the form
of small seedlings after attaining a certain age. This is
often arranged in the form of drains to get higher renounce
and less weeding. Furthermore, harvesting of prior crop
and planning of the substrate and transplantation should
be done in a small time period in multiplied planting by
doing customary way of transplantation, it would be hard.
These variables appear the require for mechanization of
transplantation even more than before. Labor costs, timing
in transplantation and the depth at which seedlings ought
to be planted are some of other factors that indicate the
necessity of fully loaded mechanized transplanter in the
field of agriculture.
Although the conversion of manual transplantation into
mechanized transplantation would, to some extent lead to
the reduction in demand of labour but it would also result
in maximum efficiency along with minimum damage to
the seedlings. However, this requirement happens when
the labour’s income is less than the revenue provided by
machines replacement. Nowadays Indian farmers are
inclined towards adopting new agricultural methods along
with new technologies. Hence in this paper main focus is
on crop transplantation machine which could give a
colossal breakthrough to the agribusiness segment
particularly in the field of crop cultivation. A crop
transplanter is a special equipment which is best suited to
the transplantation of small seedlings on marshy paddy
fields. Machine transplantation of the crops is one the
most effective alternatives to manual transplantation,
since it can achieve less labour cost, timely transplantation
